June 6th – Sunday’s Sundry

Word flag from Word Cloud

It’s getting closer and closer to Writer’s CONduit! I realized the other day that we have as few as twenty days remaining! (And, I’ve been so busy I kind of forgot to sign up for the Nebulas this year, whoops!) But speaking of online writer conferences, we’re checking the panels one last time, nailing down the time schedule, writing up descriptions, and generally making sure things are clear and ready to go. I’m a little nervous about using Twitch, but two thoughts keep circling in my mind. First of all, no technology is 100% reliable. The second is that we use Twitch for our writing streams, so again, it is good for us to use Twitch to showcase what we know and can do.

My computer has been hijacked tonight by my partner who wanted to play a game with his friends, so that means I’ve got the TV to myself. While all of my information is on the other computer, I’m going to try and use these 3-4 hours to take a break and play some Fallout 4. I always get distracted by the side quests and have never actually finished the entire thing. On the other hand, tomorrow is Monday and that means getting back to work. I think I’m almost caught up with work from when my PC died.

I’m done with plotting the 2 books and 1 novella that should be done by December. Now it’s time to see if what’s been working for me so far will be working well with me the rest of the way. I’ve done a novella like this; plot, write all the chapters, edit by chapter, fix, and publish, but I’m worried I’ll miss something when it comes to a much larger novel. I think I’ll end up hiring an editor for this since it’s my first book, and I know just the one I want to hire. So, urban fantasy here I come. The next trick will be to edit and revise those stories I’ve already written, Apocalypse Ghosts, my post-apoc paranormal story (I still dislike that name), and Lucky Number 7, my ocean-side detective fantasy.

But for now it’s urban fantasy all the way, with potions, spells, paranormal beings, and elementals all the way. I’m looking forward to seeing how well CONduit does, and then in July there’s the 4thewords event, Camp NaNoWriMo, and the start of The Writer’s Games (not to mention a fanfiction exchange I signed up for). I’m excited seeing what words will be written in the future!

I wish you a fun, productive, and happy week!

A Tokyo writer, I walk through destroyed lands, play with DNA strings like a kitten, and cast magic all about me. Prickly when poked, and subsiding on coffee, I may be a hedgehog in human form. Possibly.
